This is the second poster I created for La Rue who previously made Filth City. Another comedy poster, this one centres around the character of Gayl Pile. A camp ex-shopping channel presenter who lives on a Kangaroo farm with JD an Australian Kangaroo farmer. With comedy posters there are lots of visual nods to jokes, storylines and characters that you need to include so getting a good balance is essential.
You can’t say Apocalypse without a mushroom cloud and bombers, so I crated a central focus point from those to work the composition around. For the main characters (particularly Gayl) they had to have quite signature poses and expressions to represent the characters. The Kangaroo’s below although not seen in the film are quite viscous and rabid, kept in crates, so I needed to include those in a more fantasy way. The farm is attacked by groups of terrorists and animal welfare activists which I then added along the bottom. There are other main characters Reene the evil queen of the shopping channels, who has Septuplet babies and an over worked husband, so I gave her the right hands side stage and the other characters I placed on the left.
