Supergrid is a post-apocalyptic Canadian film from Wolfcop director Lowell Dean, In the near future, mining conglomerates have turned Canada into a wasteland. Two brothers brave the dangerous roads to deliver a mysterious cargo.
The producers wanted a more contemporary illustrated poster design, so I didn't go over the top with guns and action to keep the visual more subtle and contemporary in layout and the colour palette, something I am always conscious to do with my designs is to be reflective of the material itself, you don't want exploding neon colours and characters if that isn't really representative of the film itself.
The wanted the two main characters looking like they are more trapped that gung-ho in the design so I gave them the classic cornered back to back pose, then was able to bring some of the other main characters in to represent the main bad boss character played by Jonathan Cherry and Natalie Krill as the mysterious North.
They also wanted the main car to be central to the action, I wanted to include more story elements to set the post-apocalyptic scene (rather than a numerous cast of characters) to show the oppression of the grid with the soldiers (bottom right) and the 'Supergrid' wall. Then the visually exciting elements of the numerous masked gangs and apocalyptic survivors etc.
