This Is the main poster artwork I created for the Australian time travelling, crime caper comedy Mega Time Squad. For the composition, I wanted to create something fun and vibrant, so I looked back to the VHS cover style of the 80s to inspire me.
The design itself holds many visual references to various story elements, The ancient Chinese bracelet (bottom right) is what holds the power of time travel, the stolen money which causes all the problems (bottom left), the naff get away car, the angry Chinese Triad and mask-wearing robbers (which added an extra quirky visual). The lead character takes centre stage in the composition with Kelly the female lead beside him. I depicted the power of the time travel bracelet by illustrating him holding his arm aloft and Highlighted by the light rays, in a sort of he-man pose. I opted to depict him in his action gear as I felt that had the most visual impact and gave him more style.
As Jonathan Brugh (What we do in the Shadows 2014) is the biggest name in the production they wanted him big but being the bad guy and not the main star he needed to be more in the background so I highlighted him on one side with his crappy misfit gang below.
