Artwork for the 4k UHD release of Madman. For this one I approached it a bit differently stylistically from previous covers, I have been experimenting more with a less tight style of working and have always loved the work of Sandro Symeoni with his heavy brush mark technique that is so expressive. Its a different style of poster art to the more tight style of Enzo Sciotti, Renato Casaro
Sandro can capture a character in these great broad painted brush strokes, with just a few chunky paint marks he can create a intense facial expressions and creases in clothing, I find the technique very emotive. especially in a world of smooth digital art which is seen a lot of cover art now. So in the face of that his stuff looks so fresh (all be it from the 50s-70s) It’s a lot more lose and free way of working, I love breaking down the characters faces into brush mark shapes.
