A throw back slasher film very much intended to be in the same classic vain early 70s films like A Texas Chainsaw and The Hills Have Eyes. So I really wanted to draw that vibe out in the art.
I wanted to get in some of the kills in the montage and the forest setting vibe. 90% of the action takes place in the day time, so we wanted the design to have bright punchy colours rather than the black dark tones. For the main centrepiece though I needed to sell the iconic pigs head killer ‘Damien’ and have a classic slasher victim pose like ‘The Beyond’ etc.
How to get both killer and victim playing to the audience in an embrace of death with a big scream and a totally over sized knife coming out towards the audience became a challenge. However with some home short reference poses and a WHOLE lot of forced perspective. I worked in Damien doing kind grab from behind, which allowed the girl to then be reaching out into the audience, to produce a feeling of depth to draw the viewer in.
